Subject: Changes...
A great audience pull; nice full sound. Kevin's arrival on guitar has brought about a very unique shift in the band. Changes happened with the music and this new style makes "The Eternal Groove" flow into spaces and atmospheres that never would have happened with Rob's more straightforward scales-and-chords-only playing style. Its cool to hear.

"The Eternal Groove" is evidence enough. Kevin uses delay on his guitar, and plays in a much more textured/soundscape-way. There are moments when the band loses their footing together as they push a peak, and Kevin has to cut and run, regrouping to build his licks back up. Given George's unique drumming and the challenging material, struggling with timing is not unreasonable given how tight they all had grown as musicians before Rob's untimely departure.

Its a shitty situation, and I feel Rob should have honored the touring commitments that the band had set up following Perfect World's release, at least partially. I say that because I think the hesitancy and lack of confidence that, as a long-time U-Melt fan, is readily apparent to me in the music here proved just too much of an obstacle to overcome. They lost half their repetoire, most of which consisted of long-time staples and fan favorites (RIP Kismet, Schizophrenia, Sequel, Go, Red Star...) and were out on the road promoting their new album with a handicapped lineup, basically.

It was a gamble, sure, and I commend them for having tried. The album was released, shows booked, so you don't want to cancel... but is showing up with a limited repetoire and a band at 80% of its potential better than to postpone some shows and wait until you're at 100% again, even with a limited repetoire?

I don't know. Its just so fucking stupid that this band is no longer around. I don't care about limited song-choice or them playing the same show for a whole tour... its just criminal that Tiny Giants is no longer heard in performance, or that people can't dance to a band playing Panacea, Clear Light, or that the soundwaves of Song Behind The Time are no longer reverberating anywhere. Like, thats just god-damn unjust. Phish can stick it, for all I care.

U-Melt was the future, and an amazing miracle that should have survived. There is no longer justice in the world, when a band as talented, unique, musical, phenomenal, and breathtaking cannot succeed and continue playing together. Like, thats seriously fucking retarded.

Long live U-Melt. Those of us who were there... we know what you really were.

Subject: Slight setlist corrections- Kevin's in the singular group conciousness now. Solid.
The un-named track 4 was last I had heard tentatively entitled "Indiana". There is also a "Kind Insight" sandwiched between the "Green Paper Society".

Thanks for taping and sharing.
